Burning ISO HowTo

Note: To burn most ISOs, you can use Apple’s Disk Utility (Disk Copy in older versions).

Launch Disk Utility (Applications → Utilities → Disk Utility).
If you see the ISO in the left-hand pane, select it.
Click on the Burn button in the toolbar. (If you did not select the ISO in step two, you’ll be prompted to find it.)
Ensure that the “Verify burned data” checkbox is ticked (you may need to click on the disclosure triangle to see the checkbox).
Click on Burn. The data will be burned and verified.

Cameras

I can’t decide between the Canon EOS 450D, the EOS 400D or the Nikon D40. They all look so good. The 450D scores a 5 star at Amazon.co.uk, whilst the other two score a 4.5. Reviews seem good as well.

So why the difficult decision. I want to buy the Nikon. Plain and simple. So what holds me back. The fact that over the last 20 years or so I have only used an EOS (film). They have been brilliant cameras and I have one now - film again - I’m told I can use the lens.

The EOS reviews all state these cameras are good. Likeable in use with a few niggles. Well you would expect some niggles. It is the lower end of the market. And maybe that’s the answer - it is the lower end so get the best value!

Buffalo LinkStation Mini 1TB

This is a NAS but a small one. It is fitted with two 2.5in 500GB disks, making it about the same width and length as a regular 2.5in portable hard drive - about twice the height.

It connects via an Ethernet port - all three speeds available (10, 100 or 1000) and has a USB interface. No fan but it has air vents on 3 sides of the case. It can be configured Raid 0 (striped) or Raid 1 (mirrored). It also has an iTunes server, DNLA compliant media server and a print server.

It is easy to set-up using the out of the box software - current price around £300.

Make Expose key do more

The new Mac keyboards feature an Expose key on [F3] that when pressed shows all the open windows on your screen. So the trick now is to use the [F3] key to do the rest:
Cmd + [F3] will show the desktop
[Ctrl] + [F3] will show only windows from the front most app.

Fluid - Application Building Software

Automated use of webkit means this little application builds your own web browser - well site specific web browsers. Open Fluid, stick in your url into the box and add a name, click go and you have a web browser that navigates to that site only. Useful if you use GMail, YouTube, Facebook, etc. Each one can sit in its own browser and not take up valuable tab space.

Best of all - its free.

Banner Animation Software

Bannerzest is a new graphics programme that creates good looking banners. It creates flash slideshows designed to sit at the top of your webpage but it could be the footer!

There are a wide choice of banners available - with styles and themes - and a huge number of options. Good news really because if you don’t know flash - well you still don’t need to know flash!

It’s easy to use and will add Zest to your Banners and of course make your web pages look good.

Mail.appetizer 1.3

A must have Mac app. It is an add-on to Apple’s Mail application that has just one purpose - to pop open a preview of any incoming mail. It does this in a rather pleasant transparent window and it does it well. Multiple preferences allow you to configure this app just how you want it.
